45's by the pound

It seems that just about wherever I go I'm always keeping my eyes open for records. Stoop sales, flea markets, dusty basements in strange houses, there's vinyl out there for the taking. On a recent trip to Lancaster County I was fortunate enough to get to peruse some of the local antique markets (as this was Lancaster County my hopes were not particularly high for much in the way of good record finds). In the middle of a massive sprawling outdoor market sat an older gentleman who I noticed had a few boxes made for carrying 7" records. As I bent down I realized he had several large boxes of 45's neatly arranged (not stacked on top of each other) somewhat hidden under his table. I shuffled through expecting this to be a bunch of overpriced "oldies." The record sleeves all had different weights written on them; 25 lbs., 15 lbs., 10 lbs., etc. When he assured me it was just for his own personal calculations I dove in to find the most amazing collection of obscure funk, soul and disco 45's I'd ever seen. I grabbed a handful and asked "How much for these?" They averaged about 5 dollars a pop. I paid for my small selection and kept moving to the other vendors. It's been several weeks since my encounter with the small gold mine of vinyl and I can't stop thinking about that box. When can I get back out there? Will he still be there? Has some other crate digger stumbled upon this box 'o beats? I'm already planning my next trip to find out. I'll keep ya posted.

One of my finds was the fantastic "Karate" single by Harrisburg's own The Emperor's (sic).
